Supervisors and suggestions for Ph.D. thesis topics

Supervisor: Petra Mutlová

I am happy to consider supervision of doctoral theses on topics related to textual criticism and critical editions of late medieval Latin texts. My expertise covers various aspects of medieval manuscripts and Latin literature of the late Middle Ages. I especially welcome projects on literature broadly connected to the Czech Reformation of the 15th century.

Possible PhD. topics:

  • Nicholas of Dresden and Hussite Utraquism
  • Jan Hus and late medieval epistolography
  • Textual innovations of the Czech Reformation
  • Genre analysis of early Hussite polemics
  • Matthew of Zbraslav and his Constance sermon Estote misericordes
  • Late medieval grammar commentaries of Bohemian provenance

Supervisor: Lucie Mazalová

Possible PhD. topics:

  • "Ars moriendi": edition and/or interpretation of the text attributed to Matthew of Cracow ["Ars moriendi": edice a/nebo interpretace textu připisovaného Matouši z Krakova]
  • De consolatione theologiae of John of Dambach:Pre-Hussite and Hussite prophetic texts preserved in Czech archives. [De consolatione theologiae Jana z Dambachu - Předhusitské a husitské prorocké texty dochované v českých archivech]
